Foden Colonial Road Locomotive - Monarch, 8 NHP, Built 1913, Works No. 3534, Reg. No. MA 5502. This is one of five 8 NHP Colonial Road Locomotives to be built, the others being exported. Monarch was supplied new to the Earl of Derby for forestry work. It then passed through several owners until purchased by S. Burgess who restored the engine to its present condition in 1993. Acquired by the present owners in late 1997. New top gears were machined and fitted over the 2000/2001 winter by the family and further work was been carried out over the 2003/2004 winter. This year work included machining out the water lifter and making a new gland and tap to allow a watercart to be filled if needed.
