During the late 1800s to 1930s, many fairground rides were not only powered by showmans engines, some were built around steam engines that mechanically powered the rides. These steam yachts were supplied new to John Waddington of Leeds and worked for many years by the late Harry Lee who eventually took over the ride from them in 1948. The ride was originally fitted with a savage engine no. 804; but Harry replaced this in 1972 with engine no. 867 of 1915, and Savage organ engine no. 868. Also fitted in the ride is a 46 key Chiappa fairground organ. In 1984 the ride passed to Fred Coupland and in October 2002 it passed to its present owners who have carried out some work on the ride and have also started travelling it. |
